Governor Gretchen Whitmer Signs Executive Order Requiring Mask Use In All Public Places

Due to the order signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, masks ARE MANDATORY to enter the Ovid Township Hall. Admittance to anyone not wearing a mask will be denied.


The Clerk, Amy Havasy will be available from
8:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, August 1st, 2020
to apply for and obtain an absentee ballot in person.


The Clerk is also available by appointment to request an absentee application/ballot. Call 517-238-5099 or email ovidtwpclerk@gmail.com for information or to request an absentee ballot application.

In an effort to protect our residents and staff from the spread of Covid-19, and in accordance with recommendations from the CDC, the Ovid Township offices will conduct business through our service window.
Elected Officials and the zoning administrator are available via phone, email, mail, and the drop box located on the north drive of the parking lot.
The zoning administrator is available during regular posted hours and zoning items will be addressed on a case by case basis.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that, effectively immediately, Ovid Township shall require all contractors and property owners proposing to construct any impervious surface or structure less than nine inches in height (examples: decks, walkways, sidewalks, driveways, etc) on private property in the WR (Waterfront Residential) Zoning District to obtain a zoning permit prior to beginning work. The purpose of the zoning permit shall be to ensure compliance with the Township’s Zoning Ordinance, which restricts the maximum percentage of impervious surface on a lot in the WR District to 50% of the lot area (see Section 12.01).

Ovid Township is located in south-central Branch County in the south-central region of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Ovid Township is bordered on the north by Coldwater Township, on the west by Bethel Township, on the south by Kinderhook Township, and on the east by Algansee Township. The township is primarily rural and agricultural in character. Interstate 69 bisects the township connecting it to the cities of Coldwater and Lansing to the north and Angola and Fort Wayne, Indiana to the south.

Samuel Baker established the first settlement in Ovid in July, 1836. In the spring of 1837, the legislature officially organized the township.

Lakes are a dominant feature of Ovid Township. They are scattered throughout the 36 square miles. However, one lake in particular, Coldwater Lake, has a significant impact on the township. Coldwater Lake has a surface area of 1,610 acres, 1,292 of which are located in Ovid Township. It is the largest of many lakes in the township, it is at the southern end of a chain of lakes that stretch across Branch County.
